Bass Fishing

My man and I live on one of the premier walleye fishing lakes in the state of Minnesota.  We moved here about five years ago and have loved every minute of it.  We have always enjoyed walleye fishing.  I was stunned when my husband began to take an interest in bass fishing. There are several articles in the sporting mags about fishing for large mouth bass, but we hadn't fished for them.  My partner asserted we had enough walleye in the freezer and could catch more any time, but he needed to engage in the sport of fishing for large mouth bass.

I enjoy being out in the boat and getting a tan, so I didn't truly care what my hubby was fishing for.  Then one day we were out on the lake and he caught a big bass casting into shallow water.  I was amazed at the sight of this beautiful fish jumping out of the water, shaking his head attempting to get rid of the hook in his mouth.  I had been relaxing in the sun reading a novel when the excitement started.  My husband told me to get the net.  I waited with the net and observed the enormous fish leap out of the water again.  After the leap my partner's fishing rod almost doubled over as the fish bore down into the lake.  This battle went on for about five minutes before we ultimately had the large mouth bass in the boat.  We took footage and then released this superb fighter.

After witnessing the fun my husband had in hooking the large bass I announced I wanted to give it a try.  After only three casts I felt a jolt at the end of the fishing rod and then a powerful pulling.  I have been fishing for a number of years and could not believe the power of that fish.  He swam under the boat to attempt to get rid of the hook.  He then made an air borne jump from the water.  The jump in the air dislodged the hook from his mouth.  It was the most exciting fish I ever lost!  I knew why my partner had switched to fishing for large mouth bass.

Fishing for bass requires the utilization of artificial lures.  There is a giant choice of lures in numerous shapes and sizes.  In the past I have not paid much attention when my hubby is picking out lures, but with bass fishing I have started my own tackle box.  What an incredibly fun fish to catch.  I do not take a book with me in the boat when we are searching for large mouth bass.

Bass Fishing

Bass fishing tips come in quite handy especially when you are a beginner. Some knowledge on the specificity of the bass species would be great, as these fish have a metabolism closely related to water temperature. Their metabolism accelerates as the temperature gets higher. When in cold deeper waters, they are less active and a reduced appetite.

Moreover, around January those interested in bass fishing start to be directed towards warm waters as bass leave behind cold deep waters so they could spawn. Also, during fall bass start to move towards colder and deeper waters where they would be better off during the cold season. Yet fishermen should not expect them to cover distances too rapidly. The migration cycles from one place to another as the seasons change last for several months.

another tip for bass fishing is that these animals are social ones. They tend to stick together in schools, especially the ones of the same size. Therefore, should you get lucky and get a capture, be sure that there is more bass in the area to catch as long as you do not throw the dead caught fish back in the sea to scare away the rest of the school.

In addition, bass fishing locations are not difficult to find. Bass prey on smaller fish, but they are not great hunters due to their slow motion features. They rather wait for the prey to come along and then strike. They very often go for injured or less energetic game even though this kind of food might not be on their regular menu. Their regular menu consists of frogs craw-fish, worms, minnows insects and so on. For an experienced fisherman, knowledge of the eating habits and the mating peculiarities is no secret.

On the other hand, these fish are prey themselves so they need cover as well. That is why bass fishing is usually organized in those areas that provide camouflage for both fisherman and fish.

Successful bass fishing may also depend on the type of bait that is chosen by the anglers. Bait should vary according to both the season – spring, summer, autumn or winter – and the spawning cycle of this fish species. Hence, those new to bass fishing should pay attention to more experienced anglers to learn the basic steps.

Bass Fishing Guide for Beginners

Bass fishing is a wonderful sport to get involved in, and you can have great success with your bass fishing by making yourself educated and learning some helpful tips and techniques. A good beginner tip would be to not purchase a fishing boat until you learn how to fish for bass, then after your skills increase you can determine if you want to make it an on going part of your life. Many people who are beginning in this sport find it resourceful to rent a boat whenever one is needed.

You can also look into the option of joining one of the many bass fishing clubs which will give you the opportunity to fish off of someone else’s boat and just pitch in toward the expenses of the day.

Choosing your Equipment

The first major step you should take in bass fishing is to choose your equipment. One of the most important pieces of equipment you purchase will be your fishing rod. Fishing rods come in a large variety of different lengths, sizes and weights, but you don’t need to be intimidated by all this or the price tag when you go to purchase your first rod and reel.

The line that you choose for your bass fishing is also going to be very important here. It should be relatively inexpensive if you are a beginner because you are sure to make many mistakes early on. Once you have a rod and reel you will want to move on to selecting a few bass fishing lures.

Make sure the lures you get are specifically made with bass fishing in mind. During the summer when it is hot the bass like going to the deeper water and there are certain baits you can use for this. However, it is best during regular bass fishing to use a prop bait, especially if there is a bit of wind to help you work with it, it is also a great way to practice with your lures on speed and power.

Popper baits are some of the most popular, especially with beginner anglers. Popper bait is easy to use because you just cast it out, let it rest a short while and then pull to pop it back. You will have to experiment a bit and define your noise and pause pattern, but once you have got a hold of it you are sure to start catching bass.

Bass fishing can be an incredibly rewarding hobby, one that you will really enjoy, and it is a sport that comes with a truly fascinating history. It started as far back as the 18th century and is now considered as being one of the most popular sports in the world.
