Bass Masters Final Day

Alton Jones blew away the competition on Sunday to capture his first Bassmaster Classic victory and his largest single payday of $500,000 dollars. His final-day weight of 13 pounds 7 ounces pushed his three-day total to 49 pounds 7 ounces, besting closet competitor Cliff Pace who finished second with 44 pounds 5 ounces. Jones fished a deep jig pattern for three straight days to secure his position in history as the 2008 Bassmaster World Champion."I have struggled the last couple of years," he said in an interview before the tournament began, "but recently I've gotten back to basics and have simplified my approach. Sometimes you complicate things and forget about how you got to where you are. I just decided to concentrate on simply catching the next fish and not worrying about setting huge goals for myself." Jones stuck to his pre-tournament game plan and executed it flawlessly. read more
