Jarrod Downey and Jody James teamed up to catch an impressive five-fish stringer of bass weighing 13.91 pounds Friday to top the leaderboard at the Fish'n Fever Tackle Mobile Boat Show tournament.

Downey said the Mobile team had a long and wet day on the mid Mobile-Tensaw Delta spots they were fishing, and actually could have quit fishing at noon and done just as well.

"We were fortunate to get some quality bites early," Downey said, "but we didn't get another bite after about noon."

He said their limit would not have been as heavy if not for a bit of luck on a 3-pounder he hooked on a crankbait but that James eventually "reeled" in.

Downey said the line broke when he set the hook but it remained floating on the surface long enough for them to use the trolling motor to get close enough for James to grab it. read more
