Earlville: Free Fishing At Maple Leaf Park

In recognition of the 17th annual "Make a Difference Day" Saturday, Maple Leaf Park's management is volunteering the use of the fishing lake for community residents and their guests. There will be no charge for fishing in the spring-fed lake from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The lake is stocked with largemouth and smallmouth bass, rock bass, catfish and hybrid bluegills. The largest fish caught this season was a 10-pound catfish and a 7-pound largemouth bass. No license is required because the lake is part of the 38-acre private recreation park at 1318 E. U.S. 34 in Earlville.

Peter Gallagher, an avid, experienced fisherman, will be available to recommend bait and fishing techniques. After he caught two largemouth bass at Maple Leaf, 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and 6 pounds, 8 ounces, he had them mounted. read more
