Events Committee Vetoes Televised Bass Tournament

The town of Gravenhurst has turned down an invitation to host a Pro-Am fishing tournament with a $150,000 purse in a Canadian bass fishing circuit presented by Insight Sports and the World Fishing Network (WFN).

The decision was made by a bureaucrat with the support of Muskoka Wharf partners and the town's community events committee, but was never debated by council, the Banner has learned.

Lance Sherk, community economic development officer for the municipality, explained in an interview that Muskoka Wharf, the proposed site of the event, is not yet ready for the exposure that would be realized through a national television broadcast and the organizer's website.
