Pro Bass Anglers Hope To Hook Big Fish, Big Money On Lake Toho
Lake Tohopekaliga has developed a national reputation among bass anglers. Perhaps one of the best known Florida lakes aside from Lake Okeechobee, Lake Toho is the opener for Central Florida's Kissimmee Chain of Lakes ? a popular freshwater fishing destination for casual and tournament anglers alike.
To professional bass angler Scott Suggs of Bryant, Ark., Lake Toho is like other Florida lakes.
"I call it a 'salad bowl,'" said Suggs, who will compete in next week's Wal-Mart FLW Tour event. "It's shaped like a shallow bowl, has no contour and it's full of lettuce."
By "lettuce," Suggs means hydrilla, an aquatic plant not native to Florida waters, but quite prolific. The hydrilla and other vegetation in Lake Toho is providing great habitat for a thriving trophy largemouth bass population. read more
